Whether behind the scenes, under the lights or in the audience, student theatre simply doesn’t get any better. Union House Theatre provides professional theatre experiences, as well as fostering student theatre productions on campus.
Student Union Members get discounts on theatre tickets, free or discounted workshops and master classes and free participation in theatre shows.
George Paton Gallery

A professional art space that shows student art all year round. Established in the mid ‘70s as the first institutionally supported experimental art space in Australia, the George Paton soon became a model for an emerging network of alternative spaces and centres for contemporary art in Australia. Drop in to the gallery and engage with some innovative student or chat with the gallery coordinator about exhibiting yourself.
Student Union Members can exhibit in the gallery for free (subject to successful exhibition proposal).
Arts Lab

The Arts Lab is a space for Student Union Members to explore their ideas and try something different through creative workshops including untutored figure drawing, badge making, screen printing, painting, drawing and crafts.
Student Union Members get discounts on workshops and most materials are supplied.

Melbourne Uni’s student newspaper has been at the forefront of independent media and student news for over eighty years. As the official newspaper of your Student Union, Farrago gives students the opportunity to voice their opinions and flex their creative muscles.
Above Water
Above Water is the annual creative writing competition and anthology published by the Arts and Media (Farrago) departments of the Student Union. Each year Above Water provides the opportunity for student writers to get published and win valuable prizes, such as travel and accommodation for the National Young Writers’ Festival. Plus, with some of the finest budding wordsmiths in the country involved, it’s a darn fine read.

The largest student arts and culture festival in Australia will be back with a bang in 2009! Mudfest has grown from a small festival in 1990 featuring eleven student-devised plays to a significant, vibrant multi-arts festival held every two years. Mudfest10 in 2007 included 60 diverse projects across a range of art forms in venues throughout Melbourne. Mudfest11 will feature the latest in visual art, dance, theatre, multimedia, music and more
